Hello My Name Is...

Mr. Messinger
and I teach 4th grade exploratory music and 5th grade instrumental music at Colgate Elementary School on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Students in 4th grade learn about the woodwind, brass, string and percussion families and they learn performance skills on the clarinet, trumpet and violin.

Students in 5th grade have the option of selecting one instrument in which they learn beginning skills. Students get a 25 minute lesson 2 times per week and are expected to practice 20 minutes a day, 6 days a week at home. Students are expected to participate in 2 evening concerts. Since this is a pull out program students are required to have a study buddy to help them make up work that they miss in their regular class when they attend their instrumental music lesson.
